Resolved Question: where can i buy a flying robot with a webcam/wifi? w/o constructing it myself preferred thnks =)?

hey there i was just curious because i know they have land surveillance robots with webcams and sensors etc... but i can't seem to find a flying one, i dont imagine it being that difficult of a task i wish for it to be able to do the following things but just flying and the webcam are what matters -fly -webcam connect via pc -wifi/ bluetooth? -sensor not to hit objects?//car follow -solar panels/wings -car dock option for recharge -remote control// pc control then of course any random things that would arrive along with it would be awsome to ^_^ anyhow thanks for your inputs, mwahoo

Resolved Question: what are some energy and money saving devices for my school?

well we already are having a solar panel installed and we already got those motion sensors that turn off air condition and lights when people are not in the room. were trying to go green and keep money. what are your opinios?

Resolved Question: what kind of sensor would i need for this project?

I am building a model of a smart grid and making it better... I am using a solar panel as the power source.which then in turns meets the sensor. The sensor needs to be able to tell how much power the environment needs and how much power is coming into the system and be able to relay that information to a logic board. The environment consists of clusters of LEDs that represent houses. The logic board will then be able to determine which LEDs to close off in order to preserve the whole system. Solar panel->Sensor->Logic board-> LEDS So what nice of sensor would i need? Links/names/models would be great. thanks!

Resolved Question: Looking to install automatic gate opener. Retrofit an existing sliding (not swinging) gate. Need references?

I have been asking for bids locally for a retrofit on an existing gate. Needs to be solar powered with magnetic sensors. Low bid is $3100. I believe this bid to be too high and with the help of you would like to make this project more affordible. This includes: 1 Apollo 7100 ETL slide gate operator 2 leave sensor 50 ft. -- magnatic sensor for car or bike. non security access 1 10 watt solar panel 1 SG-4 solar controller -- to prevent overcharge 1 concrete pad for gate opener and 1 1/2 su. tube 15" gate extension Assuming I have ability to pour possess concrete and access to welding equipment, I am looking for options to purchase similar equipment to do instillation myself. What are the advantages of the retrofit compared to a swinging gate which may be cheaper? Can anyone assist me in buying the parts or similar equipment by leading to websites, distributors, etc.? Are there any kits that include automatic solar gate openers that I can install?

Resolved Question: Energy savings and passive solar ideas?

Okay, I have a 1500 sq foot two story home. It has double pane windows throughout except for a picture window and a couple tiny windows. They have secondary glass inserts right now. I am having the window company build in triple pane inserts next spring because the windows are gorgeous and stationary. My home faces N, the side on the west is horribly damaged (we bought it that way) the siding and paint are rotting and such. It is some nice of pressed board and the owners did not keep up on maintenance. I plan on installing a new furnace 94-96 percent, a 14 seer air as we barely used the current one last year, removing siding, shirring the studs 2" and re-insulating, adding three heating ducts upstairs as there are not enough, doing a sheet of insulation board, home wrap (the furnace will have a de-humidifier on it and there is a return air vent) new cement board siding in a board and batten, two coats of primer, two coats of paint possibly oil based depending on what holds up best. Re-caulk everywhere outside, add low e on windows everywhere, new shingles in a white or pale gray, thermostat that I can set, new water heater with blanket r-22, foundation insulation and adding more to attic. Attic ventilation fan, cfls in lights, motion sensor light switches, the appliances we purchased are already energy saver mostly or close to the range. So, any other ideas? Also, on west wall, I am considering putting in triple pane windows with low e, any opinions on that? Or would another wall benefit more? ALso, do dark driveways cause excessive heat gain in summer, do they melt better in winter? I will have it shaded, we are considering putting in a cobblestone type steer or a brick one, it is cheaper than the concrete if I do it myself and I know how. Thank you everyone! I have a tree on NE and sw corners shading in summer.

Resolved Question: Household carbon emissions?

hey, I'm researching what effect an eco friendly home would have on the environment, and i need some answers. Percentages would be great. How many gasses ( or what percentage of gasses) would you keep using -solar power and opposed to conventional with micro hydro as a back up? -Using energy saving light bulbs? -using natural light during the day? -using a flame and warm clothes instead of a gas heater? And how much water would you keep using - a water tank? -A water saving shower head? -sensor basins? -front load washing machine? -grey water for dishes etc. ? thanx soo much =D

Voting Question: Why hasn't the solar paneled hover craft been created yet?

I mean in every honesty we should already be living off solar powered energy resources and wind powered, and wave powered resources. We should technically only have a tiny fee to pay each month to maintain our power sources and keeping them clean. Not to mention that our vehicles should already be powered by the sun, our cars should have sensors so they turn off to avoid an accident. Then we wouldn't need insurance because if you are a bad driver your car turns off to prevent accidents. I am sorry I just find that Americans are becoming more and more wasteful. And I wish we would prevent it. To be glad with what we have like family and our dwellings and to seek advancement in technology to aid us in our life's to limit waste.

Resolved Question: Are there still Global Warming holdouts?

After the UN and Al Gore promoted it, and millions of believers embraced it, information began trickling out from non-believers that tempertures were DROPPING since 1998. Now it's a flood of over 30,000 weather scientists who deny "consensus" and warming. Yesterday it was revealed that Al Gore's main priest from NASA announced October as the warmest on record - problem is....the numbers used were from September. Innocent mistake? Or a continuing campaign? Since other planets where we have sensors have also measured global temp increases until 98, but are now decreasing, logic says it's the result of solar output changes - right ? Do we let the UN suck the life out of producing countries without proof ?

Resolved Question: How to check water temperature a little less than 1 mile away?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any experience in this type of thing (basically weather monitoring) and could point me in the right direction. If you go in a straight line, I live 0.88 miles (less than 1) from a beach. I would like to monitor the water temperature remotely. I can't run any wires to my home (it's almost a mile, and not my property) and basic weather units from Oregon Scientific and the like do not broadcast a signal that far away. Does anyone know of any way I can do this? I would need a waterproof, water temperature sensor, some device/way of broadcasting the signal to my home, and something in my home to be able to check the temperature. I also would need a power source for the sensor, but I'm ok with a long-term battery or even using some type of solar/wind power solution. Do products exist that would make this possible? Thanks so much for your help. I should mention my ideal solution would be no repeaters - I would have to place them on land I don't possess. Thanks for every the great answers everybody! I don't know what Infra red pyrometry is :) I know there are FCC rules, but I am willing to use a Cellular modem thingie (something that uses a cell phone). And aren't there frequencies that are available for public use with longer range? For example, the Family Band walkie-talkies.

Resolved Question: Where can I buy lego mindstorms supplies?

A few years ago, i bought a lego mindstorms set. This was the basic set, 2 motors, 2 touch sensors a light sensor...the basics. Anyway, some parts are missing, and other parts would be nice to have. I was wondering if there's a site that sells stuff for the old (NXT 2.0) model. I remember seeing some other parts like solar panels.

Resolved Question: How do I safety proof an 18' round above ground pool?

Hi, We have an over ground 18' pool. I am looking for some type of cover that I could put on that would ensure that my toddler and/or other kids or animals cannot enter the pool. I need something that would still allow sunshine in, so that the solar cover can do its job. A net or mesh product would work, but I can't find any products like this for sale, for an over ground pool. I plan to receive a motion sensor alarm as well, but I would like some type of extra protection, directly on the pool. Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated! Any links to manufactures, retailers, etc, every appreciated. Thanks!

Resolved Question: If this year is colder than last year, with Global Warming Luddites blame the Mt Redoubt volcano?

Will they claim that 2009 would have been warmer if it wasn't for the volcano, la Niña, solar minimum, lesser effect of co2 than previously calculated, drifting sensors, or faulty calculations? Are global warming believers starting to develop their list of excesses already in preparation that 2009 is going to be colder than 2008?

Resolved Question: 3x8 Decoder Implementation problem?

A Power backup system for a home (Load) can provide energy from U, the utility company, S solar panels and B batteries. S, when available, is the preferred source. B is to be used only as the last resource and never when the battery voltage is low. Three sensors, U, S and B will indicate 1 when Utility is available, Solar is available and Battery voltage is OK. Using 3x8 decoders and external gates, design a circuit to implement functions I1, I2 and I3. I1, I2 and I3 will control breakers that will connect the selected power source to the Load. Sketch the resulting circuit including interrupters and Load. Please any help would be appreciated Sincerely, PhysicsDisciple

Resolved Question: How to embed micro controllers unto objects?

Hey guys, I am planning on making a solar tracking device without the use of sensors. To be able to do that, I had made a program that would somewhat "follow the sun" and it only requires the user to input what specific day and time it is. By doing that, the program would automatically compute how much the object, which is a solar cell, needs to tilt or rotate from time to time to make it look like it follows the sun. Recently, someone suggested to make use of a micro controller to link my program and the solar cell. So far, I now know how to connect the micro controller to the computer itself.. The problem is how to embed the micro controller to the object to make it move according to the program.. because I doubt that you only need to attach it literally.. What specific steps do I need to do?.. wish someone can help me in my problem..

Resolved Question: How to connect a program to an object in concern?

Uhm.. You look, I have this problem about linking the program I had made to the object I am supposed to put my program in. To be exact, my program is for a solar cell to somewhat "follow the sun" without the use of sensors. To be able to do that, one must input the specific day and time and the program will automatically calculate the degrees it needs to tilt as well as rotate to make it look like it follows the sun. The problem is.. I don't know how to link my computer program to the solar cell to make it move.. wish you could help me in my problem.

Resolved Question: Should we use solar power to help electrify the border fence and to power ground sensors down south?

It's environmental and humane at the same time. I look some folks never heard of battery storage. And BTW those of us that live close the border already know for a FACT that the fence is working.

Resolved Question: i want a very bright motion sensor solar light for my backyard. any suggestions?

Resolved Question: Will filming a solar eclipse or arc welding damage my camera?

I know that looking at either of these events with the naked eye will scorch my retinas. Would my camera be damaged by filming events with such high lumina? Or am I correct in assuming that the image sensor only absorbs a certain threshold of light?

Resolved Question: At the atomic level how does a photon get converted to an electron?

My understanding is that the photon dislodges an electron on "impact". If so...can a sensor or, especially, a photovoltaic solar cell run out of electrons to dislodge? Yeah, I can ask in science as well. But I figure digital photographers would have a better handle on the process. Thanks though.

Resolved Question: Do solar lights for the outside home really work and do they last?

I am looking for outside lights that are solar and would generate lots of light. Is it possible to fine? I would like lights for the front door and back door and one light that can be the sensor for the driveway.

Resolved Question: Globull warming - if the temps are getting hotter on ALL the other planets, why do some people think...?

we can do ANYTHING about it on the third rock from the sun? We tiny humans have sent thermometers to many of the other planets in the solar system. These sensors are telling us that every the other planets are getting hotter too. If every the other planets are getting warmer, why are there people trying to receive us to buy into their explanation that it is CO2 that is making it warm here? Some people have tried to explain that, let's say, mars is a different system from earth. True. It is a different system. However, it is below the influence of the SAME sun. If this SAME sun is making mars warmer, then why is this ignored when it comes to explaining why it's getting warmer here on earth? every you AGW's, please clue me in. Set me straight! Make me believe! *laughter*

Resolved Question: Solar Power?

I have a sensor outside that we use 6 AA batteries to run (9 volts total). anyone know how I can convert it to solar power, and charge a battery to keep it going 24-7. I know little about electronics, but not when it comes to solar, and trying to charge, and use power at same time. THIS UNIT NEEDS TO SAY ON 24/7 !!!!!!!!!! (even at night)

Resolved Question: what are those small solar panels on highways?

I'm curious about those little boxes along highways with solar panels. I guess they are probably sensors that monitor temperture, road conditions, traffic, and other things to transmit back to the people in charge of the highway. Is there a company who makes/installs those things? I'd like to read up on what those things are.

Resolved Question: which type of sensors are used to detect infrared rays from sun?

I'm making a solar tracker and have planned to use IR detectors. But I've found out that IR sensors are normally found in pairs as IR emitter and IR detector that are tuned for each other. So is there any IR sensor to detect radiation from sun?Or should I use some other sensors. If so then which one?

Resolved Question: What size solar panel should i expect to buy to keep a deep cycle battery charged.?

My plan is a remote garden. I want to have a solar panel hooked up to a couple deep cycle batteries, then to and inverter, then to a timer, then to a water pump/ webcam. The concept would be to plant a garden on land i possess, and have the water pump turn on once a day for a half hour or so to pump well water to the garden. and possibly expanded into a weather station with a basic PC and weather monitoring sensors. What sized solar panel should i buy to maintain a charge in the battery? and does this project sound feasible to anyone else?

Resolved Question: Would outside air temperature sensors on satellites be useful?

It's often quoted that there are something like 180 celestial bodies in the solar system, which is used to counter the skeptic claim that a few of them are warming. I'm wondering, with the 1000's of artificial satellites that are orbiting our planet, that could potentially add a lot of data. Obviously, the atmosphere is very thin up there, so a standard thermometer would probably be useless. But might some other technology be able to measure the temperature of the scant few molecules of gas that are up in Low Earth Orbit (or the various other places that we park satellites?) I seem to remember that up there, the solar radiation is so high that the molecules are actually at several thousand K. Given that, do you think there could be a measurable trend in the temperatures which might be attributed to AGW (e.g., a slight cooling?) Thanks pegminer. I forgot to mention that if changes in the greenhouse effect could not be measurable, then might temperature changes of the gas molecules be attributed solely to solar activity, and could this serve as another piece of data in addition to TSI?

Resolved Question: Problems with motion sensor lights?

Hiya A few days ago, my parents bought a set of motion sensor ligths for nighttime. They have Infra red sensors so they only go off if something moves in front of them. Anyway, they were timed so that the light only lasts 30 seconds after activation....after tonight, I noticed that one stayed on every THE TIME even there HAS BEEN NO MOVEMENT close it and only went off because the battery wore down. The second goes off for only 15 seconds every 5 minutes or so. Anyone can walk in front of it and it doesn't go off until 6 minutes after the light knocked off. I'm a bit lost about what has gone wrong. Here is a page showing the item that was bought: http://www.safield.co.uk/solar-pir-sensor-motion-detector-security-light-p-1245.html Has anyone else bought this product and had the same problems? If so, how did you fix them? Thanks Helen xxxxx

Resolved Question: I need a switch to turn off a water pump at night?

I have a solar powered water pump that is connected to a battery allowing it to run during cloud cover or at night. I don't want it to run after dark and need a switch that I can put inline with the pump that will cease this. I have two options that I can think of, the first being an actual light-sensitive switch or relay that cuts power to the pump from the battery system when it is dark. The other option is that the battery/control housing has a light sensor that turns on some low-voltage LEDs after dark. I figure it is possible to use that voltage to turn off some sort of switch or relay inline with the pump. In other words, it gets dark, the voltage from the LED output turns on, and then that voltage, rather than driving LEDs, turns off my pump switch.

Resolved Question: What do I need to make a sensor to measure how long a light is on?

I know very little about building electronics so I was wondering how I might go about this. I want to build a sensor that will sit just below a set of lights and will measure how much time goes by whenever the light is on. It would be something that could be left there for about a week and then I'd be able to take and receive information off of it as to how long during that time the lights have been on. It doesn't have to be fancy or anything. I thought about using a tiny solar panel to power this device but I basically have no idea what exactly I would need to make this a reality. Does anyone know of any good resources I could refer to to learn the basic components of something like this? Anyone know a circuit design that is similar and could be altered slightly to serve this purpose? Thanks!

Resolved Question: Seventh Day Adventists: Has planetary exploration changed your view of the "prophecies" of Ellen White?

I've read Ellen White's "prophecies" related to her sabbath afternoon "solar system travels" where she sat in her parlor and went into "trances" where she visited each of the planets and gave minute by minute reports to those gift. Her descriptions of her experiences on the surface of each planet do not at every correlate to what recent NASA spacecraft have sent back to earth as photographs and sensor readings. Why the differences? And do these conflicting reports lessen your respect for Ellen White as a prophet? Does it comply with the Bible's pronouncement that anyone claiming to talk for God as a prophet should be stoned if they are proven untrue? Or was she speaking in some other capacity that was not prophetic? [And yes, I know that there are many SDAs who have no special reverence for Ellen White as a prophet.] But was Ellen White a untrue prophet -- with the aforementioned examples providing evidence?

Resolved Question: So what makes you think NASA knows and GOD does not? Here is your proof?

NASA: Ionosphere not where it should be... Space Daily ^ | Dec 17th, 2008 http://www.spacedaily.com/reports/NASA_Ionosphere_not_where_it_should_be_999.html The U.S. space agency says it has discovered the boundary between the Earth's upper atmosphere and space has moved to extraordinarily low altitudes. The finding was determined by National Aeronautics and Space Administration instruments aboard an Air Force satellite launched in April. The instruments, including ion and neutral sensors, make measurements of the variations in neutral and ion densities and drifts that can result in disruptions of navigation and communication signals. But the first discovery was that the ionosphere was not where it had been expected to be. During the first months of the satellite's operations, the transition between the ionosphere and space was found to be at about 260 miles altitude during the nighttime, barely rising over 500 miles during the day. http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2008/16dec_giantbreach.htm High over Earth's poles, solar and terrestrial magnetic fields linked up (reconnected) to form conduits for solar wind. Conduits over the Arctic and Antarctic quickly expanded; within minutes they overlapped over Earth's equator to create the biggest magnetic breach ever recorded by Earth-orbiting spacecraft. On Dec. 21st, another solar wind stream will arrive, only this time it will hit Earth directly. The stream is spewing from a coronal hole that straddles the sun's equator, which puts our planet squarely in the "cross hairs." The longest night of the year could be a green one; http://www.spaceweather.com/archive.php?view=1&day=16&month=12&year=2008 Since you don't understand Biblical Scriptures I guess that is why you don't understand the question in regards to signs and seasons Jesus spoke of. sorry. Daniel 8:14, representing twenty three centuries, came to an end. The 2,300 "evening - mornings" or days in this verse can be interpreted as representing years; they date from the time Daniel received his vision, about 553 BC. This sanctuary is the sanctuary of heaven, since it contains the stars and the "host of heaven" mentioned in verse 10; in other words, the sun, moon, and planets. The heavens were "cleansed" of the concept of a rigid rotating spherical firmament which had been postulated by the Greek philosophers in order to hold the stars in place in the geocentric cosmology,

Resolved Question: Is the Star Ship Economy recoverable?

Star Date: 503641.4 Life support failing, it’s engine is Burnt Out, guidance systems are Shafted, It’s Warp steer has infected the high command, The Economy's Phaser Banks are exhausted. When impulse engines are engaged it goes ¼ forward and ½ back. The Economy has a makeshift solar sail made from bedding, a Blunkett and visibility is needy. Sensors are partly operational and show the Economy on a collision course with a super massive singularity. The USS Brown is on route in an attempt to bail it out. Captain Brown thinks a highly overcharged endless Euro beam fired directly at the Black Hole will fill it and keep the Economy. dot dot dot/ dash dash dash/ dot dot dot
