I am building a model of a smart grid and making it better... I am using a solar panel as the power source.which then in turns meets the sensor. The sensor needs to be able to tell how much power the environment needs and how much power is coming into the system and be able to relay that information to a logic board. The environment consists of clusters of LEDs that represent houses. The logic board will then be able to determine which LEDs to close off in order to preserve the whole system. I have been asking for bids locally for a retrofit on an existing gate. Needs to be solar powered with magnetic sensors. Low bid is $3100. Okay, I have a 1500 sq foot two story home. It has double pane windows throughout except for a picture window and a couple tiny windows. They have secondary glass inserts right now. I am having the window company build in triple pane inserts next spring because the windows are gorgeous and stationary. My home faces N, the side on the west is horribly damaged (we bought it that way) the siding and paint are rotting and such. It is some nice of pressed board and the owners did not keep up on maintenance. I plan on installing a new furnace 94-96 percent, a 14 seer air as we barely used the current one last year, removing siding, shirring the studs 2" and re-insulating, adding three heating ducts upstairs as there are not enough, doing a sheet of insulation board, home wrap (the furnace will have a de-humidifier on it and there is a return air vent) new cement board siding in a board and batten, two coats of primer, two coats of paint possibly oil based depending on what holds up best. Re-caulk everywhere outside, add low e on windows everywhere, new shingles in a white or pale gray, thermostat that I can set, new water heater with blanket r-22, foundation insulation and adding more to attic. Attic ventilation fan, cfls in lights, motion sensor light switches, the appliances we purchased are already energy saver mostly or close to the range. So, any other ideas? Also, on west wall, I am considering putting in triple pane windows with low e, any opinions on that? Or would another wall benefit more? ALso, do dark driveways cause excessive heat gain in summer, do they melt better in winter? I will have it shaded, we are considering putting in a cobblestone type steer or a brick one, it is cheaper than the concrete if I do it myself and I know how. Thank you everyone! hey, I'm researching what effect an eco friendly home would have on the environment, and i need some answers. Percentages would be great. How many gasses ( or what percentage of gasses) would you keep using -solar power and opposed to conventional with micro hydro as a back up? -Using energy saving light bulbs? -using natural light during the day? -using a flame and warm clothes instead of a gas heater? And how much water would you keep using - a water tank? -A water saving shower head? -sensor basins? -front load washing machine? -grey water for dishes etc. ? thanx soo much =D

I mean in every honesty we should already be living off solar powered energy resources and wind powered, and wave powered resources. We should technically only have a tiny fee to pay each month to maintain our power sources and keeping them clean. Not to mention that our vehicles should already be powered by the sun, our cars should have sensors so they turn off to avoid an accident. Then we wouldn't need insurance because if you are a bad driver your car turns off to prevent accidents. I am sorry I just find that Americans are becoming more and more wasteful. Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any experience in this type of thing (basically weather monitoring) and could point me in the right direction. If you go in a straight line, I live 0.88 miles (less than 1) from a beach. I would like to monitor the water temperature remotely. I can't run any wires to my home (it's almost a mile, and not my property) and basic weather units from Oregon Scientific and the like do not broadcast a signal that far away. Does anyone know of any way I can do this? I would need a waterproof, water temperature sensor, some device/way of broadcasting the signal to my home, and something in my home to be able to check the temperature. I also would need a power source for the sensor, but I'm ok with a long-term battery or even using some type of solar/wind power solution. Do products exist that would make this possible? Hi, We have an over ground 18' pool. I am looking for some type of cover that I could put on that would ensure that my toddler and/or other kids or animals cannot enter the pool. I need something that would still allow sunshine in, so that the solar cover can do its job. A net or mesh product would work, but I can't find any products like this for sale, for an over ground pool. Hello there As for my project, we are given zigbee sensors, and asked to make a Solar Panel recharge station, which will charge 2 Batteries using Single Pole, Single toss relays. Relays being controlled by either a Demux, to switch the incoming power from the solar panel to either battery 1 or battery 2, or ground. Zigbee signal Voltage is 3.3V , Battery us 6v now the issue i have is the zigbee sensor has 4 12-bit ADC Inputs, and 2 DAC outputs. i want to measure the voltage of the battery, through the zigbee, through the ADC inputs? if your confused, if i wanna Measure voltage of a batter from a 12-bit ADC device how do i do it? only 1 pin is given?

Hey guys, I am planning on making a solar tracking device without the use of sensors. To be able to do that, I had made a program that would somewhat "follow the sun" and it only requires the user to input what specific day and time it is. By doing that, the program would automatically compute how much the object, which is a solar cell, needs to tilt or rotate from time to time to make it look like it follows the sun. Recently, someone suggested to make use of a micro controller to link my program and the solar cell. So far, I now know how to connect the micro controller to the computer itself.. The problem is how to embed the micro controller to the object to make it move according to the program.. because I doubt that you only need to attach it literally.. What specific steps do I need to do?.. wish someone can help me in my problem..

Uhm.. You look, I have this problem about linking the program I had made to the object I am supposed to put my program in. To be exact, my program is for a solar cell to somewhat "follow the sun" without the use of sensors. To be able to do that, one must input the specific day and time and the program will automatically calculate the degrees it needs to tilt as well as rotate to make it look like it follows the sun. I know that looking at either of these events with the naked eye will scorch my retinas. Would my camera be damaged by filming events with such high lumina? Or am I correct in assuming that the image sensor only absorbs a certain threshold of light?

My plan is a remote garden. I want to have a solar panel hooked up to a couple deep cycle batteries, then to and inverter, then to a timer, then to a water pump/ webcam. The concept would be to plant a garden on land i possess, and have the water pump turn on once a day for a half hour or so to pump well water to the garden. and possibly expanded into a weather station with a basic PC and weather monitoring sensors. It's often quoted that there are something like 180 celestial bodies in the solar system, which is used to counter the skeptic claim that a few of them are warming. I'm wondering, with the 1000's of artificial satellites that are orbiting our planet, that could potentially add a lot of data. Obviously, the atmosphere is very thin up there, so a standard thermometer would probably be useless. But might some other technology be able to measure the temperature of the scant few molecules of gas that are up in Low Earth Orbit (or the various other places that we park satellites?) I seem to remember that up there, the solar radiation is so high that the molecules are actually at several thousand K. Given that, do you think there could be a measurable trend in the temperatures which might be attributed to AGW (e.g., a slight cooling?) Thanks pegminer. I forgot to mention that if changes in the greenhouse effect could not be measurable, then might temperature changes of the gas molecules be attributed solely to solar activity, and could this serve as another piece of data in addition to TSI?

Hiya A few days ago, my parents bought a set of motion sensor ligths for nighttime. They have Infra red sensors so they only go off if something moves in front of them. Anyway,they were timed so that the light only lasts 30 seconds after activation....after tonight, I noticed that one stayed on every THE TIME even there HAS BEEN NO MOVEMENT close it and only went off because the battery wore down. The second goes off for only 15 seconds every 5 minutes or so. Anyone can walk in front of it and it doesn't go off until 6 minutes after the light knocked off. I'm a bit lost about what has gone wrong. I have a solar powered water pump that is connected to a battery allowing it to run during cloud cover or at night. I don't want it to run after dark and need a switch that I can put inline with the pump that will cease this. I have two options that I can think of, the first being an actual light-sensitive switch or relay that cuts power to the pump from the battery system when it is dark. The other option is that the battery/control housing has a light sensor that turns on some low-voltage LEDs after dark. I figure it is possible to use that voltage to turn off some sort of switch or relay inline with the pump. In other words, it gets dark, the voltage from the LED output turns on, and then that voltage, rather than driving LEDs, turns off my pump switch.

Why can I run my games and desktop fine, but when i do a stress test it reboots? My temps never go over 50 celsius. This is every new to me so I am learning on my new PC. I am very frustrated.

I know very little about building electronics so I was wondering how I might go about this. I want to build a sensor that will sit just below a set of lights and will measure how much time goes by whenever the light is on. It would be something that could be left there for about a week and then I'd be able to take and receive information off of it as to how long during that time the lights have been on. It doesn't have to be fancy or anything. I thought about using a tiny solar panel to power this device but I basically have no idea what exactly I would need to make this a reality. Does anyone know of any good resources I could refer to to learn the basic components of something like this? Anyone know a circuit design that is similar and could be altered slightly to serve this purpose? Thanks!

How exactly is funding science research gonna stimulate the economy? Or provide jobs for factory workers who got laid off??

I am making a solar powered RC car for my tech class, and it's going to switch from being solar powered to using the battery. Now, my teacher keeps talking about how we need to use a switching circuit, and from what I read online, I don't understand it at every. So how would I use the switching circuit in the car? I'm getting a day/night sensor also.

I've read Ellen White's "prophecies" related to her sabbath afternoon "solar system travels" where she sat in her parlor and went into "trances" where she visited each of the planets and gave minute by minute reports to those gift.
